Creative Hummingbird Feeders

Creative Hummingbird Feeders

These creative hummingbird feeders will attract the delicate birds to your garden with their colorful red designs.

I am always fascinated when I see hummingbirds flitting around my garden.  They are so delicate and seem to defy all rules of aeronautics as they hover over flowers gathering nectar.

  1. I would love to have a hummingbird feeder, but my husband says they attract snakes. Is this true? I’m deathly afraid of snakes and don’t want to encourage them.

    • Hi Lydia

I have never seen any evidence in my yard of them attracting snakes, but did a bit of research on google to see. It is mentioned but does not seem to be a huge problem for people. Snakes do eat birds, so any bird house might attract them I suppose. The problem seems to mainly be if the bird house were attracting birds that would not normally be, then perhaps it could also attract snakes (not the house itself but the birds) But as I say, I have never seen one anywhere near mine.

    • Hi again Lydia, I am posting the question on my Facebook page to see if others have a problem with it. Carol

    • I have had a hummingbird feeder for years and have no problem with snakes…I to do not like snakes.

  2. I had hummingbirds for 13 years in Tucson, AZ. I had a 3 ball decorative mobile hanger, and the birds came every day. If I ran out of nectar, they would fly in front of my kitchen window (near the hanger) until I re-filled the 3 little balls. My recipe: 4 cups water, 1 c regular sugar. Stir to dissolve and fill the feeder balls. It would last about 2 weeks, and then I’d bring them in, wash them with soapy water, rinse well, and refill. Once in a while I had a bee problem but would bring the feeder inside, wait a week or so, then put back outside. The hummingbirds were so tame, they would hover inches from me while I re-hung the feeder balls. It was very fun and very easy. I am now living in Omaha and hope to attract some Nebraska hummingbirds.

    • Hi Jan. I envy you for this experience. It sounds wonderful. I friend of mine has a farm with hummingbird feeders all around her porch. She has had as many as 60 at one time! Carol

  3. When will the glass balls with copper be available on Amazon or where else might I get them?

    • Hi Joan. They have taken it off their list of items for sale, so I am not sure if it will be available in future. It’s a shame. It’s such a pretty design. Carol

    • Hi Christie. I didn’t make the feeders, I shared them from various other sites to show a variety. Under each photo is a link to the original site. They should be able to answer your question. Carol

  4. Hummingbird feeders do not attract snakes and do not put red food dye in the sugar water ,it softens the egg shell
