Now that the temperatures have dropped and the holidays have gone, I decided that a winter door swag makeover was in order.
I have a wreath, or door swag on my front door year round. The door has an oval glass panel in it and putting a swag there gives me a bit of extra privacy and I like the way it makes the door look too. 
Note: Hot glue guns, and heated glue can burn. Please use extreme caution when using a hot glue gun. Learn to use your tool properly before you start any project.
The cold weather is here and it is time for my winter door swag makeover.

For Christmas this year, I had an ice skate door swag that was decorated in red with a Christmas bow and some seasonal decorations.
It was too “Christmasy” to stay up through the winter, but I liked the idea of using the ice skates and adding some other decorations that would make more sense for winter.
“Mittens!” my husband exclaimed when I asked him what to do for my Winter Door Swag Makeover. So, off to the Dollar store I went and came back with some white and cream child’s mittens that could be used.
In addition to my Dollar store mittens, I had a row of burgundy colored jute twine, some small cream colored burlap lace baggies, and some neat little bowls that form themselves just with the pull of some satin ribbon hiding inside the bow.
How neat these will look on my door.
The bow that I planned to use on my swag was a combination of several of these easy Jute pull bows.
The jute twine was going to be used to make some extra small bows to add to the finished larger bow. My Winter Door Swag Makeover is coming together nicely now.
I also used the jute twine to add burgundy colored shoe laces to the skates to replace the red ones from Christmas.
The mittens got tucked into the top of each skate and glued to the front, and then I hot glued a small lace bag to each mitten for some extra appeal.
The only other step was to hot glue a few extra boughs behind the top of the bow to hide the door hanger. Here is the finished swag:
And here is how my front entry looks now. Gone are the Christmas lights and sled. But my swag looks perfect for my winter door.
It is especially appropriate considering the amount of ice we got here in Raleigh last week from winter storm Jonas! See pictures from my garden of the storm here.

I’d like to make some colorful clay pots for each season and add some burlap roses and make a little branch tree with some of the trimmings & roses…Thank You..

Something to perk up my breakfast room…
I have a pair of ice skates just waiting to be used in a winter vignette or wreath/swag! Last year I tied a scarf around an evergreen wreath and attached the ice skates. I hung them from my porch railing and let everyone passing by view them until March! I love burlap flowers, wreaths, printing on burlap – I like burlap pillow covers – there are tons of ways to use burlap – book covers, too!
Your project from last year sounds lovely.
I think I would try to create something for Valentines Day, not sure yet what it would be.
